Mamdani on election wins: New Yorkers exhausted with ‘status quo politics’

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani (D) said voters showed they were exhausted with “status quo politics” by backing democratic socialists in New York state and federal primaries on Tuesday.

Three Mamdani-backed candidates won their Democratic primaries for seats in the House and six New York State Assembly spots this week, with most ousting incumbent leaders.

The mayor said the House campaigns led by former city Comptroller Brad Lander, state Rep. Claire Valdez (D) and Darializa Avila Chevalier show signs of change.

“I think what you’ve seen from New Yorkers, whether it’s in Brad’s race, Darializa’s race, or Claire’s race, is an exhaustion with status quo politics and a desire for something that actually responds to the needs that they have in their own districts,” Mamdani said Wednesday during an appearance on MS NOW’s “All In With Chris Hayes.”

Lander and Avila Chevalier bested incumbent Democratic Reps. Dan Goldman and Adriano Espaillat........
