Collins has ‘serious objections’ to parts of Trump 2026 budget
Senate Appropriations Committee Chair Susan Collins (R-Maine) said she has “serious objections” to the defense funding proposals in President Trump’s fiscal year 2026 budget request, while also taking issue with some of the non-defense programs being targeted.
In a statement on Friday, Collins called Trump’s request “simply one step in the annual budget process," adding the “request has come to Congress late, and key details still remain outstanding.”
“Based on my initial review, however, I have serious objections to the proposed freeze in our defense funding given the security challenges we face and to the proposed funding cuts to – and in some cases elimination of – programs like LIHEAP, TRIO, and those that support biomedical research,” Collins said.
