Google trying to recover footage from Nancy Guthrie’s home cameras: Sheriff

(NewsNation) — Investigators don’t yet have footage from various cameras at the home of missing 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, but Google is trying to retrieve it, said Arizona’s Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos.

Nanos told NewsNation’s Brian Entin on Tuesday that authorities so far have only obtained Google Nest video from the front of the house — footage that was able to be recovered even though Guthrie didn’t have an active subscription.

Investigators have asked Google whether additional video can be accessed, and, according to Nanos, the company said: “We don’t think we can get anything, but we’ll try.”

Nanos said he’s still hopeful more footage can be recovered, noting that the video already released generated nearly 5,000 tips. Google has described the retrieval process as delicate, he added.

“It’s like peeling paint —you have images over images over images,” Nanos said. “And you’ve got to peel back very easy because you might destroy the layer you wanted.”

With the search for Guthrie now in its third week, investigators are still looking for a breakthrough. DNA recovered from gloves found near her home did not produce a match in CODIS, the FBI’s national DNA database.

An FBI official told NewsNation on Tuesday that the DNA sample will now undergo genealogical testing.

Sheriff has ‘100% faith’ Nancy Guthrie case will be solved

Investigators are still working to determine what led to Guthrie’s disappearance — whether it was a burglary gone wrong or something more targeted involving her high-profile daughter, “Today” show co-host Savannah Guthrie.

“We recognize that anything is possible,” Nanos said. “The time to ask that question — motive — is when we actually know who’s done this.”

Authorities said Monday that Guthrie’s family had been cleared as potential suspects.

Guthrie was last seen at her Tucson home Jan. 31, but Nanos said he has “100% faith” that investigators will solve the case.

“If you were the guy, if you were that monster, you should be worried,” he said.

Authorities believe Guthrie was kidnapped in the late night or early morning hours before she was reported missing Feb. 1.

The FBI is offering a reward of up to $100,000 for information leading to Guthrie’s recovery or the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in her disappearance.

Anyone with “actionable information” is asked to contact 800-CALL-FBI or the Pima County Sheriff’s Department non-emergency line at 520-351-4900.
