If you're a parent or a guardian, you know that keeping your kids safe is something you always think about. I know parents who worry about the people their children spend time with, the places they go, and what adults they can trust around them - it's a constant concern.

That's why the Rockliff government's Community Protection (Offender Reporting) Amendment Bill 2024 matters.

The Bill is not about creating panic or suspicion. It should not spark hoards of vigilantes in our suburbs. It's about giving parents access to information that helps them make informed, responsible choices regarding who's around their children.

In the past, Tasmania's laws have focused on monitoring offenders. There are plenty of examples of authorities being overly cautious when it comes to sharing information with the people who need it most - families.
