‘Aren’t the Same Thing’: Black Congressman Shoots Down Jim Crow 2.0 Claim

FIRST ON THE DAILY SIGNAL — A black congressman who lived through the Jim Crow era told the Daily Signal that the Left’s claim that requiring a voter to present identification before casting a ballot is an “elitist claim” used to gather support for their “Godless” policies.

“What they [Republicans] are proposing in this so-called SAVE Act is like Jim Crow 2.0,” Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., said earlier this year.

Rep. Burgess Owens, R-Utah, categorized Schumer’s opposition to the legislation as a product of the “elitist mentality.”

“Democrats are saying that African Americans and women are not as smart as they are,” Owens, one of the first black Americans to attend the University of Miami before playing for the National Football League, continued.
