There’s no good place to be chased by a knife-wielding maniac. But you especially don’t want to be chased by a knife-wielding maniac in Boston, where earlier this week, Mayor Michelle Wu offered her condolences to the family of said maniac: 

“My condolences and all of our thoughts are with the family of the individual whose life has been lost.”

“The individual” refers to 32-year-old Lemark Jaramillo, who was fatally shot by an off-duty police officer after allegedly chasing two people into a Chick-fil-A in Boston’s Copley Square and threatening to stab them with a knife. 

Wu, who earned two degrees from Harvard University, presumably has a firm enough grasp on the English language for one to assume intention in her deceptive phrasing. The attacker’s life “has been lost,” misplaced, as one might shed an eyelash or lose track of spare change. Wu continued, saying, “I’m also thinking of all the people who were impacted here today in one of the busier parts of the city…with this tragedy.”
