Genius Art Prank Shows Major Problem With Artificial Intelligence: It’s Too Good

Can artificial intelligence produce art?
Social media user “SHL0MS” devised a brilliant means of testing this question. SHL0MS presented his followers with two images Tuesday. The first, an AI-generated image in the style of a painting by French impressionist Claude Monet. The second, an image of a painting by Monet himself. Both images depicted lily pads resting on the surface of a reflective pond.
SHL0MS asked his followers to “describe, in as much detail as possible, what makes this inferior to a real Monet painting” and to “focus on the specific visual elements that distinguish the AI image from a real Monet painting like the below.”
