The method behind Swindon Town being League Two top scorers
Swindon Town’s use of width and ability to adapt with slick attacking play has them as League Two’s top scorers once again.
Following the injury to Harry Smith against Barnet, Swindon were left having to change their way of playing. Not drastically, the principles remained, but a team that had led the league in accurate long balls was going to have to find a different way to get from A to B.
Town have outscored everyone in League Two since Ian Holloway's arrival, and have maintained that without Smith, even after having to adapt quickly. Three consecutive league games with a goal scored from more than ten passes demonstrate the effectiveness of what has been going on.
The formation has altered only slightly, the 343 has been swapped for a 352 with Darren Oldaker thriving in a more advanced role, which alternates between a true attacking midfield role and as a left inside forward. Paul Glatzel and Aaron Drinan have pivoted from playing........
