News of Swindon Borough Council's financial difficulties have sparked a lot of discussion with the public.
The local authority faces a projected £4.775 million overspend this year, largely due to the rising costs of children’s social care.
At a recent meeting, it was revealed that demand for placements for looked after children is outstripping expectations, pushing the children’s services budget to a forecast £6 million overspend.
This comes as the council’s annual revenue budget stands at £188.3 million, meaning the overspend represents a significant challenge for local finances.
