Reaction to car transporter wedged under Swindon bridge

A car transporter that became wedged under a Swindon bridge sparked a lot of discussion online.

The large vehicle caused traffic chaos on Monday after misjudging the height of a bridge on Highworth Road, near the Rat Trap and Honda North roundabouts.

A couple of cars on the top deck of the transporter were badly damaged.

Queues of congestion grew on the A419 for much of the afternoon as recovery and emergency repair efforts were carried out.

Carl Hughes asked: “How an earth did this happen? Must have been loaded incorrectly as the bridge isn’t low enough as the car transporters that used to leave and bring cars from Honda used to pass under the bridge.”

Jonathan Watt said: “He clearly didn’t do his height stick check very well before he left with his last car in! No sympathy to the driver!”
