E-scooter and public drinking ban could be coming to Swindon
The council is considering bringing in a Public Space Protection Order covering the town centre and Broadgreen around Manchester Road - but would it be enforceable?
Among the nuisances which might be banned are the riding of e-bikes and e-scooters in pedestrian zones or on the pavement or footpath, riding a pedal cycle recklessly, as well as public drinking and public urination and defecation.
Those found in breach could be fined up to £100 on the spot, alcohol would be confiscated and further summary convictions could result in a fine of up to £500.
Here’s what Adver readers had to say on the subject.
Tony Burbs said: "Aren’t bikes and scooters already banned in the pedestrian zone? Banning is easy but who will enforce it?"
Marc Cowan said: "What a joke. They are already banned, just never enforced."
Terry Hawkins said: "Should have been banned ages ago."........
