Adver readers agreed with a councillor who highlighted the need for safety to be a bigger priority in plans for the town centre.

During a meeting held by Swindon Borough Council’s Build a Better Swindon Committee about the Heart of Swindon scheme, Councillor Stanka Adamcova said: “Safety does not explicitly figure in the vision, and it’s something that comes up all the time when I’m talking to residents, and it’s in the feedback all the time.

“Unless people feel safe there, they won’t be coming into the town centre.”

Here’s what you had to say on the matter.

Lorna Wilson said: “I work in the town centre and I don't feel safe of a night there when I finish work.

“If people aren't shooting up then they are fighting, way too much crime now in Swindon altogether but the town centre is dreadful now, knife crime , rapes, beating up of the older generation, absolutely disgusting!

“I'm glad my kids don't like going out there.”

Claire Wilby said: “There’s hardly anything worth going in for now. Used to be a great shopping town. Not now.”........
