More than 1,600 former miner are better off after pension injustice 'put right'
Thanks to our Labour Government more than 1,600 former mineworkers in Blaenau Gwent & Rhymney are now receiving an extra £29 a week in their pensions on average.
This was a result of the Labour Government putting right the injustice of the Mineworkers’ Pension Scheme by transferring the scheme’s £1.5bn investment reserve to members. It came after years of campaigning by me and my fellow Labour coalfield MPs. This is an issue close to my heart. My uncle Dessie is one of those former mineworkers who is receiving the uplift. I know how important this is and the difference........
