'What stood out was the heart-warming compassion shown'
This month, I want to share updates on some of the issues I have been working on here at home in Monmouthshire.
One that has caused concern for many of us here in Monmouthshire, was the detainment of local resident Rebecca Burke in the United States.
I’m incredibly relieved to share that Rebecca is now back home with her family.
My team and I worked behind the scenes with the Foreign Office, relevant authorities, and ministers, doing everything we could to get Rebecca home as soon as possible. We also stayed in close contact with Rebecca’s dad, Paul throughout, providing regular updates and offering support.
It was a hugely distressing time for everyone involved, but what stood out was the heart-warming compassion shown by residents all across Monmouthshire. So many of you reached out with messages of support and it’s moments like this that remind us why our communities across Monmouthshire are so fantastic.
Another important issue I’ve been working on is road safety. This is one of the most common concerns raised with me, and while it’s a devolved matter for the Welsh Government, I’m regularly in contact with ministers to pass on local feedback and push for improvements.
