Newport's 'unappreciated gem' that's making live music accessible for all

The Cab in Newport city centre is one of the city’s unappreciated gems. After having opened three years ago, many music fans are simply unaware that the venue exists.

The venue on Cambrian Road exists to serve members and fans of the punk and hardcore communities. The music is hard, fast and aggressive – in simpler terms, it’s not for the faint hearted.

The Cab venue manager Joe Wag, 27, said: “I’d always joked with my friends about the idea of having my own music venue, and then this came up.

“I’ve lived in Newport all my life so I wouldn’t want to do this anywhere else.”
