A powerful new opera telling the story of one of Wales’ most devastating mining disasters is set to be performed in Gwent as part of a tour.

Gresford – Up From Underground, performed by NEW Sinfonia, tells the story of the 1934 Gresford Colliery disaster, in which 266 men and boys lost their lives in an underground explosion.

The production is visiting mining communities across Wales, including a performance at Blackwood Miners’ Institute at 7.30pm on Thursday, February 26.
