Ex-Warriors star arrested for allegedly hosting illegal games at Calif. mansion

Former Golden State Warriors star Gilbert Arenas was arrested Wednesday, the Department of Justice announced, for allegedly hosting illegal poker games at a mansion he owned in Encino.

In a news release, the DOJ announced Arenas’ arrest along with the arrests of five others, including Yevgeni Gershman, a 49-year-old man who the DOJ said is a suspected organized crime figure from Israel, over the high-stakes illegal poker games.

In the indictment, Arenas is charged with one count of conspiracy to operate an illegal gambling business and one count of operating the illegal gambling business. He also is facing one count of making false statements to federal investigators.

The indictment was filed July 15 and unsealed Wednesday. The document alleges that Arenas rented out his mansion in Encino — an upscale San Fernando Valley suburb — to host the illegal high-stakes poker games. According to the DOJ, Arenas directed a man to........
