The South Korean chipmaker approved 54 trillion won for fabs in Yongin and Cheongju, targeting cleanroom openings in 2028 and 2029

SK Hynix approved 54 trillion won ($38 billion) in investments on Friday, authorizing construction of two new fabrication plants on home soil — one for DRAM and one for NAND flash — as AI-driven appetite for memory chips shows no sign of slowing.
The board earmarked 35.2 trillion won for the Yongin facility, known as Y2, and 19.1 trillion won for a second plant in Cheongju, designated M17, the company said. Y2 is set to begin construction in July 2027, with the facility's first cleanroom........
