The 10 highest-grossing X-Men franchise movies, ranked by worldwide gross
The highest-grossing X-Men movies, ranked by worldwide gross, run from Deadpool & Wolverine's roughly $1.338 billion to X-Men Origins: Wolverine, spin-offs included
The biggest earner in X $TWTR-Men history is not an X-Men team movie. It is Deadpool & Wolverine (2024), a crossover spin-off that took in $1,338,073,645 worldwide, or roughly $1.338 billion. It is the only film in the franchise's top 10 to pass the $1 billion mark. Its lead over the No. 2 film, Deadpool 2 (2018), comes to $551,711,275. That gap alone exceeds the full worldwide gross of five of the 10 films on the list.
This ranking of the highest-grossing X-Men movies draws on Box Office Mojo's X-Men franchise data. It orders films by worldwide gross alone. It spans 10 releases from 2003 to 2024. The totals appear as reported, with no stated adjustment for inflation. A 2003 gross and a 2024 gross sit side by side at face value.
The list is broader than the core team films. It includes three Deadpool movies and three standalone Wolverine pictures: Logan, The Wolverine and X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The remaining four are ensemble entries: X2: X-Men United, X-Men: The Last Stand, X-Men: Days of Future Past and X-Men: Apocalypse.
The 10 films earned $6,467,878,530 worldwide between them. The three Deadpool films account for $2,906,383,706 of that, or about 44.9%. The four ensemble films combined for $2,156,009,897. That is less than the Deadpool trio alone. The three Wolverine solo films added $1,405,484,927.
The contest for second place was close. Deadpool 2 edged out the original Deadpool (2016) by $4,414,679. X-Men: Days of Future Past, at No. 4, is the highest-ranked ensemble film. Logan, at No. 5, leads the Wolverine solo outings. X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009) closes the list at $374,825,760. That leaves a $963,247,885 spread between first and last place.
Box office rank measures ticket revenue, not quality or profit. Budgets are not part of this data. The list cannot say which films made the most money for the studio. What it does show is where global audiences spent their money across more than two decades of mutant movies.
Deadpool & Wolverine (2024) is the top X-Men franchise earner
Deadpool & Wolverine (2024) is the highest-grossing film in the X $TWTR-Men franchise. It ranks No. 1 with a worldwide box office gross of $1,338,073,645, or roughly $1.338 billion, which makes it the franchise's top earner.
No other film in the ranking comes close. None of the remaining nine reached $800 million worldwide. Deadpool 2, the No. 2 film, grossed $786,362,370. Deadpool & Wolverine earned about 1.7 times that amount.
Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman star in the film, a Disney $DIS release under the Marvel banner. Before its debut, Disney kept much of the film's content secret. The studio also held only limited press screenings.
The film belongs to the franchise as a Deadpool spin-off, not as a core X-Men team movie. It is one of three Deadpool titles on the list, and those three hold the top three places. On its own, the 2024 crossover accounts for about 46 percent of what the three Deadpool films earned together.
It also outearns the strongest entries from the franchise's other branches. X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014), the highest-ranked ensemble film, grossed $747,862,775. Deadpool & Wolverine took in about 1.8 times that amount. Logan (2017), the top Wolverine solo film, grossed $614,202,315. The crossover's total is about 2.2 times Logan's.
Its total is also about 3.6 times that of the No. 10 film, X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009). Measured against the full list, Deadpool & Wolverine accounts for about 20.7 percent of the 10 films' combined worldwide gross. That is roughly one dollar in every five. It also equals about 26 percent of what the other nine films grossed combined.
It is the most recent release in the ranking. The list spans 21 years, from X2: X-Men United in 2003 to this film in 2024. No other title on it came out in the 2020s. The next-newest film, Deadpool 2, arrived six years earlier, in 2018.
Deadpool 2 (2018) worldwide gross
Deadpool 2, released in 2018, ranks second among the 10 highest-grossing X $TWTR-Men franchise films, with a worldwide gross of $786,362,370. It is a Deadpool spin-off rather than a core X-Men team movie.
It is the top earner on the list from before 2024. No other film in the ranking was released between Deadpool 2 and Deadpool & Wolverine. It is also the only 2018 release among the 10 films.
The sequel finished just ahead of the film that launched its series. Deadpool (2016) took in $781,947,691 worldwide. No pair of neighboring films in the ranking sits closer together.
The next-closest pair sits much further down the list. The Wolverine, at No. 8, and X2: X-Men United, at No. 9, are $10,108,222 apart.
Deadpool 2 also outranks every ensemble film on the list. X-Men: Days of Future Past, the 2014 release at No. 4, earned $747,862,775 worldwide. Deadpool 2 outgrossed it by $38,499,595.
The same holds for the Wolverine solo films. Logan, the strongest of them, came out in 2017, one year before Deadpool 2, and still ranks three........
