Just when you think everything's perfect, your intuition may indicate otherwise.

Expect anxiety and uncertainty when you take risks.

Making change doesn't come without loss, but it certainly is worthwhile.

Everybody’s afraid of change.

Admit it: you are. I’ll admit it: I am. But there are people who manage to get past their fear of change and embrace it. (I find those people fascinating.) Others resist until the very last minute.

Which one describes you?

How many of you are living your lives knowing you’re reasonably happy, or living a routine you’re comfortable with, and sticking to safety and maintenance, even though a part of you might know you need—or want—more? Are there relationships or activities that you have thought about pursuing but never tried? Have you postponed travel that had the potential to be exciting, but you saw only obstacles? Did you think about moving but instead decided to stay put in a city or neighborhood that’s known and comfortable?

As some of us settle into middle age and beyond, it’s easy to enjoy and never question the safety and security we experience in our routines, our homes, our communities. And that’s a valid and sometimes excellent choice to make. We’ve worked hard all these years—at our careers, in our relationships, with our families—so that we can belong, fit in, and achieve success.
