Many things go into creating a fulfilling remarriage. While it may be obvious that what new spouses do together matters, it is also true that what they think matters as well. What a person believes to be true shapes their perceptions and actions. As the late public philosopher and humorist Ashleigh Brilliant once wrote, “Seeing is believing. I wouldn’t have seen it if I hadn’t believed it.”

Researchers have found evidence that remarried individuals who are confident in their relationship resilience have more satisfying and stable relationships. Remarital confidence is a shorthand label for specific beliefs about the relationship that are associated with stronger bonds.
