Twenty-five years ago today, terrorists hijacked four aircraft in the northeastern USA. They crashed two into the World Trade Center towers in New York City, setting both towers alight until they collapsed. They flew one into the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. The fourth aircraft was on its way to crash into a building, almost certainly in Washington, D.C., when passengers fought back and the plane hit the ground in rural Pennsylvania.
Everyone aboard the four planes died. Thanks to the passengers on the fourth plane, no one died on the ground in that crash. 125 people inside the Pentagon were killed. Over 2,000 people in and around the World Trade Center died on 9/11, while more than a dozen perished soon after from injuries sustained.
Hundreds of emergency responders died when the World Trade Center towers fell. They had not hesitated to enter the burning buildings, climbing dozens of floors to try to help people escape. Many were on their day off, but turned up to assist when they saw or heard what had........
