For the most part, these sections of the history are about the Planter families – New England settlers – who were granted thousands of prime acres after the Acadians were forcibly expelled.
The book glorifies the Planters, presenting on one hand a people who pioneered the Annapolis Valley’s main claim to fame, apple growing. On the other hand, Marguerite Woodworth’s History of the Dominion Atlantic Railway presents a contrasting picture on apple growing by the Planters.
