I wish I could say it was the first, but Christmas has a tinsel string stranglehold on my nostalgic heart.

But I do so love Canada Day – I always have.

I don’t remember going to many community gatherings for the occasion, unless it was an extra-special occasion, when something like the Snowbirds or RCMP Musical Ride happened to be on the Island.

But I do remember the fireworks.

When I was a child, my parents would dutifully make the drive to Summerside or sometimes Borden-Carleton, where we have family, in our Saturn station wagon to watch the fireworks.

Clad in my stylish Ninja Turtle PJs, I’d put the back seats down and make a cozy bed for myself in the........
