CHEERS AND JEERS: Cheers to the new UPEI medical home
Cheers to the new medical home at UPEI‘s faculty of medicine building, which began taking on patients this past week. The new clinic is expected to provide primary care to just under 10,000 P.E.I. patients when it is fully staffed and running. As of Nov. 3, two registered nurses, five LPNs, one physiotherapist and one social worker are working at the medical home and 200 patients have begun the onboarding process. This is a tangible measure to reduce the number of people waiting on the P.E.I. patient registry, which stands at about 35,000 people. It will also give new students at the medical school on campus real experience with Island health concerns.
