Organizing your Windows filing cabinet

A computer is like a massive filing cabinet that has been shrunk to a small, manageable size. It’s filled with file folders arranged in alphabetical order, which are filled with subfolders, some holding hundreds of files.

On a Windows computer, the main storage folders have the descriptive names Music, Pictures, Videos, and Documents. 

Theoretically, subfolders should be labelled by description and date and contain only relevant files. For instance, the Pictures folder should contain subfolders with names like “Cottage June 2024” and contain no documents or music.

That’s the theory. In reality, your computer’s probably a mess of forgotten, unimportant or misfiled photos and documents. Finding a specific file may involve an enormous amount of time searching for it because it’s stuck in the wrong folder or subfolder.

Adding some organization to this chaos will necessitate delving into the computer’s folders and doing some decluttering by deleting useless files and making important files easier to find. It would be mighty........
