Lora Ross to take on the best public speakers in the province
A few weeks ago I included a piece about a group of local young orators that had been consistently achieving top marks in the Royal Canadian Legion’s annual Public Speaking Contest.
These boys and girls can all take pride in knowing they are part of an elusive group of the best speakers in the province. One of this talented group, Lora Ross, has advanced through all the levels so far, recently placing first once again at the district level; this means that this well-spoken young lady from Douro-Dummer will now move on to the provincial finals held in Napanee this coming weekend.
Lora is competing in the senior level for grades 10 to 12 (she is a student at Lakefield College School) although she is no stranger to the legion’s annual public speaking competition having previously won the provincial finals in 2016 at the Primary Level when she was in Grade 2. Her emotionally charged speech about memories does touch on the fact that this will be her last year competing and how the experience over the years has helped to shape the person she is today. Best of luck Lora!
