Let’s not pretend this started on Oct. 7
Lake Minnetonka, Minn.: Your editorial “Remember Oct. 7 terror amid debate over the war in Gaza” (Oct. 7) is totally off base. Hamas was created because of the occupation and Israeli land seizures starting in 1948 through today. When Israel was created, 750,000 people from Palestine were physically expelled — many were killed or harassed and forced to move, creating this refugee problem.
Many wars and territorial encroachments by Israel have happened since. The 2014 Israel-Hamas 50-day war killed 2,200 Palestinians in Gaza. More than half were women and children, and 11,000 Palestinians were wounded. Why do you not speak of that? Why do extreme Zionists think they can continue killing innocent people with impunity? The devastation and the 73,000 Palestinians killed by the IDF since Oct. 7, 2023 were intended casualties. Israel wanted revenge and an excuse to steal land in the West Bank, control Gaza and invade Lebanon. Benjamin Netanyahu and his cabinet are the architects of this policy. He and others will account for this one day.
Your editorial is a perversion of facts as you conveniently leave out, ignore and deflect what has happened over 78 years of this major dispute. I have nothing against the Jewish faith, but the media, including yourself and many other irresponsible publications, have a slender knowledge of history in the Middle East. They think Oct. 7 happened in a vacuum. It did not.
