America stands at the precipice of 25 years, when on Sept. 11, 2001, 19 hijackers devastated the twin towers, murdered 2,977 people, and drew the nation into a 20-year conflict that has fundamentally changed the nation and the world. The great question is, have we learned anything? Based on President Trump’s war in Iran, the answer is no.

In the immediate aftermath of the attacks, Americans united in a way many hadn’t seen in decades. Flags fluttered from sea to sea, representatives and senators stood on the steps of the Capitol and sang “God Bless America.” People today remember that unity. They don’t remember when it ended; there’s a specific date — Jan. 29, 2002, when President George W. Bush delivered the State of the Union Address, now known as the Axis of Evil Speech.

Why did that moment shatter American unity? Because Bush made clear his intention to attack Iraq, a nation that allegedly conspired with Al Qaeda. There existed no........
