Karl Purenins, a volunteer with Caister lifeboat, walked up behind the victim while she was in their bedroom and grabbed her around the throat.

She struggled to breathe as he dragged her into the bathroom.

When neighbours came to intervene, she told them: "He's trying to kill me."

In December last year Purenins, then 44, was sentenced to 20 months in prison, suspended for 24 months, at Norwich Crown Court.

Norwich Crown Court (Image: Peter Walsh, Newsquest) The court heard Purenins had suffered "some sort of breakdown" at the time of the attack, which might have been triggered by the possible effects of medication he was taking combined with his drinking.

But Purenins, of North Drive, Great Yarmouth, is due back in court........
