Relatives of Peter Beart, 76, told an inquest into his death they had spent years looking for him after he left following a falling-out over money.

Mr Beart had moved from Cambridgeshire to Norwich - where he had no previous connections - and used the surname Brown, meaning despite repeated efforts they were never able to track him down.

They told his inquest at Norfolk Coroner's Court it came as a "huge surprise" for him to be found in city and that they "always missed him so much after he left".

The hearing was told he had had a "distinguished military career" before ending up on the streets.

His body was discovered in the Wensum near Norwich's Foundry Bridge on November 11, 2025.
