Emergency lane closures were put in place on Thursday in part of Martineau Lane and Bracondale after a member of the public reported a strong smell of gas in the area.

Engineers have located the source of the gas leak and are carrying out repairs, causing delays on the roads in the area.

Now Norfolk County Council has warned of increased traffic around County Hall ahead of the England v Moldova under-21s match at Carrow Road.

The match, which kicks off at 7pm, will lead to thousands of fans hitting the roads.

A spokesman for Norfolk County Council said: "This is causing congestion in the area and adding time to journeys - especially at peak times.

"If you're heading to Carrow Road for the England v Moldova U21 match tonight, please allow extra travel time or consider using alternative routes or modes of transport if possible.

"Your patience is appreciated while emergency works continue."

It is unclear when the emergency lane closures will be lifted.
