Forbidden Planet - which specialises in comics, collectables, pop culture merchandise and blind boxes - has announced that it plans to open on Saturday, May 2.

The new shop will be located in the former Bright House premises in St Stephens Street, which is currently being fitted out with new shelving units.

On Sunday, May 3, the shop will also celebrate Free Comic Book Day, an event where shops worldwide give away specially selected comics for free.

Comic book enthusiasts previously had to travel all the way to Cambridge or London to get their Forbidden Planet fix.

A statement shared on the shop's Facebook page reads: "Norwich, citizens of pop culture.

"While the architects of the future construct our new world, a cosmic shift. Opening soon."

A spokesman for the comic book shop chain previously said: "We’re really looking forward to bringing Forbidden Planet to Norwich and, in due course, serving the local community with our full range of comics, pop culture, blind boxes and collectors' merchandise, backed by over 50 years of retail experience."
