Landlord Green councillor accused of hypocrisy for housing tenants in mouldy home

Liam Calvert, who has sat on Norwich City Council for two years, is facing questions about the condition of a property he rents out for £900-a-month in Hotblack Road.

The councillor - who rents out multiple properties - has previously accused City Hall of "failing" its tenants and has acted as an advocate for social housing tenants who have been forced to live in homes riddled with damp and mould.

But it has now emerged that Mr Calvert's rental property has some issues of its own, with the roof in need of repairs, evidence of painted-over mould in the walls, and the garden overgrown.

Mr Calvert and Ms Colby's neighbouring properties (Image: Sonya Duncan) Gail Colby, who lives in the house next door, said she has been urging Mr Calvert to sort out the problem for a year and claims that damp and mould has now started to spread through the wall connecting the two properties.

She added: "I told him that he needs to address the situation and it is really starting to affect my property now.

"Everyone on this road is doing their best with the terraces and take pride in their homes. And then there's Liam."

Mr Calvert said he has not received any complaints about the state of the house from his tenants but has arranged for some repair works to take place within the next week.
