People living in city estate slam developer's plans for play area and car park

Homeowners in Hampdens View say they were promised a shop, a primary school, a village hall, an orchard and allotments when work on the area first began in April 2014.

And while around half a dozen small play parks have been built as part of the estate's growth, a long-promised 6.5-acre plot on the southern border has yet to be developed.

Taylor Wimpy, the developer behind the estate, recently submitted a revised proposal for the space which omitted shops, schools, pavilions and orchards.

Instead, a large car park would be built, as well as allotments and a two-acre play area.

The proposals were revised after Costessey Town Council decided there were already enough sports pavilions and pitches in the area.

One homeowner who lives in Colossus Way in the estate wrote to South Norfolk Council complaining about the developer’s revised plans.........
