People living in Cannell Green, just off Gurney Road, shared their horror at seeing "around six or seven" police cars from their windows on Wednesday afternoon.

One person, who asked to be known only as Enrique, said: "It's horrible. We moved here a year ago so we're not used to living in a place so violent."

Enrique described how he had heard shouting in the estate's courtyard earlier that morning.

He said: "It felt like it was building up to something."

A few hours later, police were called to the site following reports that a man had assaulted a woman.
