No-shows! Council meeting scrapped... because not enough councillors turned up
The meeting was due to hear how the museum service is taking £1.3m out of reserves to plug a funding gap, partly caused by delays in completing the multi-million-pound Norwich Castle keep revamp.
But only eight of 18 committee members turned up to the meeting on Friday (January 7) afternoon.
The council constitution required a minimum of nine for the meeting to proceed.
County councillor John Ward (Image: Norfolk County Council) After waiting 10 minutes in the hope more councillors would arrive at County Hall, John Ward, chairman of the Norfolk Joint Museums Committee - made up of county, district, borough and city councils - declared the meeting could not take place.
