The admission by Dr Andy Wood, chairman of Norse Group, led to claims by county councillors that his company had failed to invest in the facilities.

Norse Care, the care arm of Norfolk County Council-owned Norse Group, has already closed Springdale Care Home in Brundall and Burman House in Terrington St John, while Linden Court in Watton will shut next month.
