The demonstration outside South Norfolk Council’s headquarters came ahead of the authority’s first full council meeting since controversial proposals for the facility at Keswick were submitted.

Armed with placards declaring “we need nature, not data” and “say no to Apex data centre”, protesters voiced fears about the potential impact on nearby Marston Marsh, which is around 600 metres from the proposed site.

Jane and Paul Minns, who have an allotment near the planned site, said: “We are very worried.

“Every aspect of our life will be affected. It’s in the wrong place.”

Speaking about Marston Marsh, they added: “There’s so much wildlife, it’s so diverse and such a special place. We walk around it twice a day.

“If they destroy it, it will never come back again.”
