AAP-BJP locked in bitter battle on nine seats narrowly won and lost in 2020
New Delhi: It looks like a close election in Delhi. After routing BJP in the two successive assembly elections of 2015 and 2020, AAP no longer looks invincible in the ongoing Delhi assembly elections scheduled for February 5. Perhaps, the 10 years of anti-incumbency and dent of AAP Convener Arvind Kejriwal’s ‘incorruptible image’ following surplus spending on renovation of his official bungalow and arrest in the alleged Delhi Excise Scam has done the trick for BJP. However, Kejriwal, master of electioneering and innovative campaign tricks up his sleeves can never be taken lightly. He is not yielding and is likely to make the BJP sweat for every vote.
And given the surging contest between the two parties, Delhi appears to be heading for a cliffhanger with sure-shot loss of seats for AAP and sure-shot rise in seats for BJP. In the last elections, while AAP won 62 seats, BJP could win only eight seats. And it is because of this high-decibel close contest in Delhi that the nine seats where the 2020 results were decided by the margin of less than 4000 votes, have gained added importance and could hold the key to power.
Out of these nine seats, AAP had won seven while BJP won the remaining two. The constituencies in discussion include – Shalimar Bagh, Kasturba Nagar, Patparganj, Adarsh Nagar, Bijwasan, Chattarpur, Krishna Nagar, Laxmi Nagar and Badarpur.
Of these, BJP won Badarpur and Laxmi Nagar........
