Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, addressing the State Legislative Assembly, directly attributed the devastating Karur stampede to the “late arrival” of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay and a failure of basic crowd management by his party. The incident on the 27th of last month in Velusamypuram claimed the lives of 41 people, including children and women, during a campaign rally for the actor-politician.
The Chief Minister’s detailed statement marks the government’s most comprehensive official explanation of the tragedy, which is currently under the scrutiny of a CBI investigation supervised by the Supreme Court.
