After Zelenskyy, now it's Ramaphosa: Meet Trump at your own risk
When South African President Cyril Ramaphosa entered the Oval Office this week, he surely knew what lay ahead. Still, the sheer theatrics of what followed took Washington watchers by surprise. Yet nothing quite prepares a head of state for a presidential press ambush — complete with dimmed lights, a TV wheeled in, and Trump growling “death, death, horrible death” while showcasing a video montage of anti-White chants and white crosses.
It was a surreal display. The South African leader, flanked by golf legends Ernie Els and Retief Goosen and joined by billionaire Johann Rupert, tried to steer the conversation back to reality. “We have too many deaths. And it’s across the board. It’s not only white farmers,” Rupert told Trump. Ramaphosa, ever the diplomat, added humour to the tension: “I wish I had a plane to give you,” he quipped after Trump bristled at a question on Air Force One. “I wish you did,” came the reply.
