EOS-05: India’s first geosynchronous imaging satellite set for launch

ISRO is set to launch EOS-05 aboard GSLV-F17 from Sriharikota on September 4, 2026. The satellite will operate from geosynchronous orbit and is expected to give India persistent Earth observation capability from around 36,000 km above Earth.

GSLV-F17, the 19th flight of India’s Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV), is set to carry EOS-05 into space. The launch will take place from the Second Launch Pad at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota at 2:55 am IST on September 4, 2026.

The rocket will place the satellite into a Sub-Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (Sub-GTO), from where EOS-05 will use its own propulsion system to reach its final geosynchronous orbit.

EOS-05 is a state-of-the-art Earth observation spacecraft. It will be India’s first imaging satellite to operate from geosynchronous orbit.

The satellite is designed to observe Earth from an altitude of around 36,000 km.
