World Cancer Day 2026 observed with focus on person-centered care and free cancer screening initiative
New Delhi: The Institute of Liver & Biliary Sciences (ILBS) observed World Cancer Day on 4th February 2026 with a comprehensive awareness, academic, and public health outreach programme at the A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Auditorium, ILBS, Vasant Kunj. Observed under the global theme “United by Unique,” the programme emphasized person-centered cancer care, especially in liver cancer. The event saw participation from the ILBS fraternity, school and college students, healthcare professionals, members of the general public, and cancer survivors.
The observance was held under the leadership of Dr S K Sarin, Director, ILBS. The event was graced by Chief Guest Dr Sanjay Seth, Minister of State for Defence, Government of India. Guests of Honour included Dr Suman Rijal, Director, HDC, WHO SEARO, and Dr Anil Goyal, MCh (Urology).
The Chief Guest, Dr Sanjay Seth, Minister of State for Defence, Government of India, lauded ILBS for taking a leadership role in integrating cancer prevention with institutional healthcare delivery. He observed that the increasing burden of cancer demands structured, accessible, and community-linked screening systems rather than hospital-only approaches.
