Kedarnath Heli Services: 30% flight reduction, strict safety rules; new shuttle service from Gauchar to Badrinath
Ahead of the Char Dham Yatra 2026, helicopter services to Kedarnath and Badrinath will operate with stricter safety rules. Flights have been reduced by 30% following last year’s accidents, with new shuttle services and improved monitoring to ensure safe travel for pilgrims.
Dehradun: The Uttarakhand Char Dham Yatra 2026 is set to begin on April 19 with the opening of Gangotri and Yamunotri shrines. Helicopter services to Kedarnath will start on April 21, but this year, the government has introduced major changes to ensure safety and smooth operations.
During the 2025 Yatra, five helicopter accidents raised serious concerns. In response, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) issued strict guidelines for heli services. The most important change is a 30% reduction in shuttle flights to Kedarnath. This step aims to reduce congestion, improve safety, and prevent risks during takeoff and landing in high-altitude areas.
