Breaking: Glacier Breaks close to Badrinath; 57 workers trapped, 10 workers rescued
Chamoli: A glacier broke near the workers’ camp in Chamoli’s Badrinath Dham after heavy snowfall. BRO (Border Roads Organisation) and district administration officers are present at the spot. The glacier broke near the border road at Badrinath Mana.
It is reported that around 50 labourers were staying near the camp. BRO Major informed that the glacier broke near the labourers’ camp, but there is no clear information about the damage yet.
24 workers trapped in the avalanche, rescue operation halted due to snowfall
To rescue workers trapped in the avalanche near Mana, 52 officers and soldiers of the Garhwal Scouts were present. The CO of Garhwal Scouts has left Jyotirmath with 60 soldiers for Mana village. However, the soldiers will only be able to reach Mana after the snow on the Badrinath Highway is cleared.
Four teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed
After the safe rescue of 32 workers, 25 workers are still trapped under the snow. Therefore, the Uttarakhand government has requested MI-17 helicopter services from Indian Airforce to assist with recue operations amid very poor weather conditions caused by heavy rain and snowfall in Chamoli district. Additionally, four teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed to aid in the rescue efforts in Uttarakhand’s Mana. Currently, the rescue teams are facing tough challenges as nearly 8 feet snow is accumulated in the area which is further complicating the rescue efforts.
32 workers have been rescued so far
Amid intensive rescue operation, 32 trapped BRP workers have been rescued so far. Major Prateek Kale, commandant 75 battalion, Border Road Organization (BRO), who is leading the team, informed News9live that 32 workers have been rescued so far and rescue teams are leaving no stone unturned........
