New Delhi: Galactic archaeology is the study of chemical fingerprints in deep space to trace the history of the galaxy. For the first time, astronomers have used the technique in a galaxy outside the Milky Way, demonstrating a novel approach to reconstruct the evolution of distant galaxies, and opening up the brand new field of extragalactic archaeology.
