Rohit, Rickelton star as Mumbai Indians beat KKR by 6 wickets to end IPL opening-match losing streak

Mumbai Indians rode on blisteirng half-centuries from openers Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton to comfortable chase down the target of 221 runs and beat Kolkata Knight Riders by six wickets in their opening game of the IPL 2026.

New Delhi: Mumbai Indians (MI) pulled off their highest successful chase in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) to beat the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by six wickets in their opening game of the 2026 season at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday, March 29. MI also registered the highest successful chase by any team at the Wankhede to end their opening-match losing streak in the IPL after 13 years.

The five-time champions, who are known to be slow starters in the league, last won their opening game of the IPL season in 2012. They had since lost 13 consecutive opening matches in the IPL.........
