Opinion | The US-Pakistan Tango Is A Reset That Has Consequences For India
Let’s begin with a question. Should the growing bonhomie between Pakistan and the United States worry India?
The question was triggered by an image released by Pakistan’s foreign ministry. It shows Pakistan’s self-appointed Field Marshal General Asim Munir offering rare earth metals to US President Donald Trump, quite literally on a platter, during a closed-door meeting at the Oval Office.
Islamabad’s foreign policy establishment is showcasing the image as proof of a great reset in US-Pakistan ties, a long-delayed course correction that will erase a decade of mistrust.
For many, the picture is a throwback to the colonial era: the subjugated potentate offering tribute in exchange for patronage. Ordinarily, serious students of geopolitics don’t assign much significance to unequal relationships.
