Opinion | Mayawati’s Praise Of Yogi Adityanath Gives BJP’s ‘UP Model’ An Elephantine Boost
Former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati, while speaking on October 9—the 19th death anniversary of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) founder Kanshi Ram—made a seismic statement, deceptively couched in her flat, nasal drone.
Mayawati, India’s most prominent Dalit leader, heaped praises on chief minister Yogi Adityanath.
She said unlike the previous Samajwadi Party-Congress state government, which suppressed all the ticket money collected from Dalit memorials like the Kanshi Ram Ji Smarak Sthal, the Yogi government had used the fund to save the place from disrepair. She thanked the UP government for promising to use all the ticket money on the upkeep of Dalit memorials.
She was particularly acerbic about SP and Congress talking about PDA (‘Pichhda, Dalit, Alpsankhyak’ or backwards, Dalit, and minorities) when they were out of power, but forgetting all about it when they were elected.
BJP was quick to reciprocate and thank her. Minister of state for social welfare Asim Arun........
